Normally I don’t do anything in the way of political cartooning as it’s just not my thing. I really appreciate well done topical satire – it’s a hard skill to master – I just prefer to do my own weird little thing with non-fiction comics and cinema out over here in left field.  I was trying to do a list of movies to get my readers through the painful, divisive campaign season as it ground to a close and I was, frankly, just not feeling it. I tried to be non-partisan and, in any other year, I would have been. But, damn, people, this one is different. This one is scary. This one is MEAN and is uncovering some truly awful stuff about America. And Donald Trump is terrifying. Xenomorphs and nuking things from orbit (it’s the only way to be sure) are one thing in the movies, but xenophobes and a hothead in charge of the nuclear launch codes is quite another level of existential terror, at least for me. So this is what came out when I sat down to the drawing table. I promise to get back to the political history of the cinema very soon. The Hays Code, the communist black list and the modern MPAA ratings system are coming, I promise. But I had to get this off my chest. Vote your conscience, but take a really good look at the people around you and ask yourself if it’s not true that we’re stronger together. #I’mWithHer
