Another short and sweet comic as I play catch up for #Drawlloween. This one is for Demonday, get it, Demon Day, deMONDAY, ha ha. I thought I’d take us behind the scenes of one of the most iconic demonic films of all time, The Exorcist. Hollywood make-up legend Dick Smith is responsible for making heads turn (360 degrees!) and pea soup vomit fly. As The Exorcist was made in 1973, the year of your humble cartoonist’s birth, all the effects were practical and many were pioneering. Ironically, the actor who spent the most time in the make-up artist’s chair wasn’t Linda Blair, our possession victim, but Max von Sydow, who was a good 30 years younger than the priestly character he played. Dick Smith truly was a wizard at aging people for the silver screen.
