October 30: Skulls & Skeletons (& The Evil Dead)
It cannot be overstated how wonderfully trashy these films are and what a genius team Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell are. And how much I love Ted Raimi and all the Fake Shemps of the world. This is true experimental filmmaking at it’s finest and goriest. The simple technique of strapping the camera to a board and having two people run with it through the forest to film the evil spirits’ POV? Freaking genius! I think the Evil Dead series is an inspiration to so many low-budget filmmakers. Never let them tell you your dreams can’t be committed to celluloid (or pixels for today’s movie makers.)
